The portrait

An original portrait, hand-painted in oil from your photograph and framed by hand in New York in a solid wood float frame. We leave oils unglazed, so every brushstroke stays visible.

How it works: a private consultation to choose the photo, size and frame; a composition mockup for your approval; progress photos while your artist paints; and final approval before framing.

Included: the artist's signature, a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity, a gallery label, gallery-grade packaging, and white-glove delivery and hanging in the New York area.

Price includes one person or pet. Additional subjects are $150 each.

Our guarantee

Every Maison Septième portrait is made to order for you, so we cannot accept returns of finished custom work. Instead, every commission includes the approvals, revisions and guarantee below.

Our likeness and quality guarantee

If your finished portrait does not capture the likeness of your approved photo, or has a flaw in craftsmanship, we will correct or repaint it at no cost to you.

Revisions included

  • Composition mockup: up to two rounds of changes to the layout, background and crop before painting begins.
  • Finished piece: one round of adjustments after you see the completed portrait and before it is framed.
  • Changes requested after you approve the finished portrait, or changes to a new photo, size or medium, are quoted separately.

Payment and cancellations

  • Orders placed on our website are paid in full at checkout. Commissions arranged through a private consultation may be reserved with a 50% deposit, with the balance due once you approve the finished portrait, before framing.
  • You may cancel for a full refund within 48 hours of payment, as long as your artist has not begun work.
  • Once your artist has begun an Oil or Paper portrait, 50% of the price (or your full deposit) is non-refundable, because it covers the artist's time and materials.
  • Studio Collection orders may be cancelled for a full refund until your artist begins, usually within 2 business days of ordering.

Every shipment is insured. If your portrait arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the box and the artwork. We will repair or replace it at no cost.
